Privacy and Confidentiality

GENERAL INFORMATION

Making sure that all of your information stays private is of great importance to us. You may visit the LIFT Study web site without providing any personal information, such as your name, address, or e-mail address. If you choose to provide such information, all information you give will be kept private and confidential. The LIFT Study will not share your identifying information with others.

While we take every step to protect the LIFT Study web site and prevent others not associated with the study from accessing or interfering with our files, we cannot assure that such tampering will not occur.

FEDERAL PRIVACY ACT

The LIFT Study is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR)

To help us protect your privacy, we have obtained a Certificate of Confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health.  This Certificate is not an endorsement from the Federal Government for our research.  Rather, a Certificate of Confidentiality protects your privacy by allowing us to refuse to release your name or other identifying information to anyone outside of the research project and institution, even by a court subpoena, except in the unlikely event of a federal audit.  In which case we may have to reveal your name but only to those authorized representatives.
